Kangaroo Bluff Historic Site

Built in 1880, Kangaroo Bluff at Bellerive is a gun emplacement and fort that was constructed as a result of suspected Russian warships being spotted on the River Derwent. The battery guns to this day haven't been fired in anger, in which case the site has been preserved both for its picturesque location and historical significance.

The site is situated on Hobart's Eastern Shore, roughly 10 minutes drive from the city. Open from 9am to 5pm daily and entry is free. Because the battery is surrounded by a deep moat and therefore entry is not recommended at night so care must be taken when visiting.
