Anglesea Barracks

Anglesea Barracks, now home to the Military Museum of Tasmania, was built in the 1800's and had many different uses, including being a home for women, a school and reformatory, but the barracks were originally ordered to be built by Governor Macquarie to house the British regiment. The museum now preserves and exhibits the history of the Australian Army and is situated within the original military jail.

The Museum is open on Tuesdays from 9am to 1pm, and Thursdays from 9am to 12pm. Guided tours are also available on Tuesdays at 11am, or other times by appointment.
